The juice from one lemon added to warm wash water will noticeably brighten your whites. Drying them on the clothes line on a sunny day will boost your results. It's simple, but it works!

I am a nurse and I have to wear white scrub pants. The material holds up very well, (I buy Cherokee for any other scrub wearers out there) but MAN do they get dingy. I can't WAIT to try this tip.
Thanks for the tip! In our county we have very hard water and it makes it impossible to keep whites white. I have always used hot water and one cup of bleach but they never stay white. I will definitely try this! Question, hope it is not silly {smiles}, does it have to be from a fresh lemon, or can it be from those little lemon containers of lemon juice?? And if using the lemon juice should I cut out the bleach??
I just read when dealing with hard water if you add 1/2 a cup of vinegar to the rinse cycle it helps a lot! Problem is you have to listen uo for the washer...
Thanks for the tip. Here, in the Netherlands, most laundry hangs outsite to dry. Only when the weather is to bad we'll hang it inside and when there's too much we'll put it in the dryer. Nothing smells better than clean sheets, dryed outside. I was al bit surprised when I read the reply from Heidi. Why won't you hang your laundry outsite to dry? It smells so good.

can this be used on bright colors to or will it fade them. sorry if its a stupid question. also i have a front loader can i just add it in were i would put the bleach.
Id probably put it in the fabric softener drawer if you're line drying, if you use softener and are tumble drying you could put it in the pre-wash drawer I guess

DeleteFYI: 1 medium sized lemon will give you approximately an 1/8 to a 1/4 cup of juice.
