In pursuit of a simple, fabulous, imperfect life at home.

{OrganizedHome} Day 30: My Craft Closet

I had another post planned for today.  But then I spent the evening painting and organizing my new crafts closet.

You might remember the before picture from this post here.

Here is what it looks like now:

I literally sat in my laundry sink to take that picture.  While my husband held a lamp. Do you know how difficult it is to take pictures of a closet? at night?

I've moved my wrapping paper and gift bags into the crafts closet because I am finding that I often use craft items while wrapping gifts and vice versa.

I've used a kitchen divider meant for baking sheets to hold gift bags and tissue paper.  I have three of those kitchen dividers in my house and only one is actually in the kitchen. They are so versatile!

I store ribbons in a box covered in white shelf paper and some grommets.  You can pick up a grommet tool and some grommets for cheap at any sewing store and the package will tell you how to use them.

The closet walls are painted with a grey paint I picked up from the mis-tints bin at Home Depot.  I love the mis-tints bin!

  1. It's lovely, and I'd never guess it was taken at night. Good work being in the sink and recruiting hubby to hold the lamp!

  3. Oh how I wish I had a whole cupboard I could dedicate to craft! I have a box that I manage to keep pretty organised but not as attractive as your cupboard.

  4. How beautiful! I've been going to put my buttons in Mason jars, never thought about thread. What a great idea. You have been very inspiring with all these ideas and pictures of what you have done. Thank-you!

  5. Such a simple idea, folding your fabric and storing vertically - I LOVE IT! While I'm generally a purger, I DO have a lot of fabric and I'm constantly reorganizing it since I dig through it to find what I want and it all gets messed up. Never even occurred to me to store it vertically instead of stacked on top of each other - genius! Thanks a ton!!

  13. Oh man theres a mis-tints bin?! I knew about the scrap material bin at Walmart. I'm going to Lowes tomorrow to ask if they have one. That is so great. Your blog makes me so happy I cry and I get these knots and butterflies in my stomach and I just want to jump up and do stuff! Too bad its past nine and my son is in bed.

  14. Great idea on using the seperater for gift bags. My only tip to give in return that I use and love is, I have a big binder for my tissue paper. I fold the different color tissue paper up just like when you buy it and slip it into a page protector in the binder. Then all my tissue paper never gets crumpled and stays nice and tidy and organized. Each color in a different page protector. Easy to find what you are looking for.

  15. I LOVE your Craft Closet!! I just wish I had a closet just for Crafts! We live in an old Farmhouse that we moved in 11 years ago and it only had 2 1/2 closets!!

Yes I did say 1/2....My sons room has a 1/2 of a closet that we had to make into shelves because NOTHING hung in there, it was too shallow!!! My daughters room is the only bedroom that has a closet BUT her room is so small 8x13 that her dresser is in the closet just to give her space! And the other real closet the landlord put the hot water heater in....SO, in our bedroom a 16x16 We built a HUGE closet(floor to ceiling and across the entire wall 16x10) and that is the catch all, from linens, to my husband and my clothing to the summer/winter buckets, camping, sewing and really anything that will fit!! Oh and the 5 drawer filing cabinet! :) I am thinking of converting a space in that BIG closet just for my craft stuff!!! hummmmm you got me thinking ;)

  16. To prevent dust or other things from messing up your fabric, I suggest folding them inside out to protect them. Loving your blog :)

  17. This is all basic organization...and I love it. You are organizing a home where people live and have junk drawers. All of the other websites just show how to organize a spartan Better Homes and Gardens house. People can take your tips and modify them to fit their individual home needs. This is a great blog!

    1. Love organization and your blog! I store gift bags and tissue paper in those clear plastic containers that sheets, curtains orblankets come. Some have wire in them, making them sturdy enough to stand upright on a shelf.

  22. Great Ideas! I like to store my tissue paper in the plastic sleeves from the newpaper-they fit perfectly-no folding the length is just right and fit in my drawer so nicely and stay organized by color!

  23. I love the mis-tints rack too. I visited there often when we painted our home. Due for a new coat of paint next year, I believe. :) Thanks for the reminder. Glad to know I am not alone either. Such a great way to get cheaper paint!
