{A Beautiful Easter Tradition} The Resurrection Egg (and a free printable!)

I start by setting the table with 10 small numbered plastic eggs.

Each guest is instructed to open the eggs in order, read aloud the verse inside, and show the item within to everyone at the table.

The eggs tell the story of Christ's Journey to the cross.

And in the final egg...
 

Nothing. There is nothing.

The egg is empty.

In one long heartbeat, the awkwardness around the table turns to solemn understanding.  The egg is empty, like the tomb was empty.

Friends, He is risen!


To do this project at your Easter dinner, you will need:

• 10 plastic eggs (I bought my awesome polka-dotted ones at the dollar store)
• The nine bible verses to go in the eggs (see the free printable below!)
• A way to number the eggs(these also are available as a free printable below!)
• The props
• 30 dimes
• a chunk of bread
• a peice of rope
• a tiny crown of thorns (I trimmed a thin branch from my rose bush. And pricked my fingers about a hundred and fifty times...)
• dice
• a torn "curtain" (a small peice of cloth)
• linen to symbolize a burial cloth
• spices
• a rock

Instructions: Place a verse and the coordinating prop in an egg and affix the numbered label by wrapping the "arms" around the egg and taping it at the back.  Continue with all the eggs, leaving the tenth one empty.  Place them around the table and instruct your guests to open them in order, read the verse aloud and hold up the item inside up for everyone to see.

In case pink isn't your thing, I've also made the number labels available in yellow.  For best results, print these on cardstock too.

(I don't know why I made page one and two as separate documents...it must have been one of those crazy mommy-brain moments.  Forgive me?)

Oh...and I recommend using a pair of scalloped craft scissors to cut around the number part because scallops make everything look more fancy and festive and fun!
