Announcing: 31 Days to...

Last October I was one of over 700 bloggers who took Nester's challenge to blog every single day for a month about a topic we are passionate about.  My 31 Days to an Organized Home was great fun, and exhausting, and a little bit chaotic. I think I've nearly recovered!

So this year, because I'm crazy, I will be writing for 31 days about another topic I just can't get enough of...

Autumn.

I love autumn.  I love the way the air smells, the comfort foods, the scarf-wearing weather.  I love rustic colours and hay bales and carved pumpkins. And I can hardly wait to share this passion with you for 31 straight (eek!) days!

There will be recipes, crafty ideas, and all sorts of fall inspired fun. Get ready to see a lot of autumnal words like "cozy", "inviting", and "pumpkin pie spice" around here!

Right now our whole house is busy getting ready for October.  We're getting a head start on some projects and doing some very serious recipe tweaking and testing (the hubby loves that part!).  I'm even putting some casseroles in the freezer for busy bloggy days.

Together, let's savour the season this fall!

Do you love fall as much as I do?  What is your favourite thing about the season?

  1. I LOVE fall. I love everything about it. Unfortunately, the northeast doesn't get a very long one. Looking forward to your October writing.

  2. I loved your 31 days to an Organized Home and used many of your tips! I am looking forward to this next month as well! Happy blogging!

  3. I cannot wait for this! Love things that celebrate the season!

  4. Autumn is by far my favorite season. I love Christmas and decorating for Christmas, but I love the crunching leaves, scarecrows, pumpkins, and all other noises and smells associated with fall. I love fall so much that we always do our yearly family portraits during the fall! I even once painted my living room burnt-orange (for a whole day . . .not a good color in my house!).

  5. I love Fall too. My favorites are the colors of the changing leaves, the cool evenings that require snuggling under a cozy blanket with a cup of tea, and pumpkin pie!

  6. Love it! Fall is my absolute favorite, too--love anything pumpkin related!

  7. Ohhh! I am so excited! Cannot wait for this to start! Loooove Autumn!

  8. Brilliant! I've been dreading Autumn because winter is next, but figured I needed to get excited about it to avoid getting sad about the change of season.

Looking forward to this series! :)

  10. I love this time of year for all of the family activities that are available. Around here there are several festivals, craft fairs, and our church always has a pumpkin patch.

  11. I love this idea and have been looking for a challenge in order to improve my blog and my posting. I read all your posts about blogging suggestions and remember that you recommended this as a strategy. Now I just have to come up with something good to write about for 31 days, as I will be on the road for half of that... hmm...

  12. I am going to be living vicariously through you and this blog for October! Fall is my absolute favourite month. Living in Uganda for the last year and a bit this will be the second {Canadian} fall I've missed out on but will be dreaming of the day when I can experience it again {next year}.
    Looking forward to your posts!

  13. I'm a huge fan of fall! Looking forward to your posts. I've been a reader for awhile of this and TYOL but am just now commenting for the first time. I have 3 kids and want more and live in a tiny house. I very much appreciate your perspective, and it has helped me work through some former ideas on how I perceived my home.

  14. I love fall but didn't always. It started off with a hatred because it is "back to school time" when I was growing up but now I just see fall as a this lovely time for scents of allspice, warm tea, floppy sweaters and delicious-enough-to-eat leather boots. From fashion to food, there isn't anything I don't love about fall!

  15. Yippee! I love fall, too! your 31 days to an organized home is what hooked me! Have a great weekend.

  16. Fall is my favorite season by far!! And now, a new thing to love about fall...31 days of posting! Your blog is great, keep up the great work!

  17. Hmm, I'm super on-board except for the pumpkin pie part! (Don't like it, and one of the annoying things about fall for me is that everything is pumpkin-pied!) Looking forward to seeing what your creative brain is brewing for October!

And okay, this is off-topic, but I keep seeing the mei tai carrier ad in the sidebar and have to ask what you love about it. I'm researching a switch from my Snugli, which I'm told is a 'crotch-dangler'. I have been trying a sling, but baby boy hates it. More expensive options are now appearing to be the best choice.

    1. Hi Steph! The Mei Tai is just super comfy. I used to have a CuddlyWrap, which was very comfortable to wear for long periods of time, but it was too much of a pain to take off and put on again. The Sash Mei Tai is the best of both world, in my opinion...the comfort and flexibility of the wrap style carriers, but easier to put on and take off. The Infantino brand one isn't expensive either, and it looks nice...I am very happy with my purchase :)

    2. Yeah, they are really reasonable (!) but bummer, I can't seem to get it shipped to Ontario. And I can't find them here at all! Weird. Where did you buy yours?

      Delete
    3. I got mine at Toys R Us (also in Ontario) In fact, I was in there with a friend a couple months ago and she got one too, so I know they still carry them.

      Delete
    4. They don't seem to carry them anymore, online or in store. I guess I'll just have to Amazon it and make a trip to pick up in Buffalo. And try not to buy anything else while I'm there!

  18. Sound like it'll be fun. On another topic, I'm curious what home staging things you've undone now that your house isn't for sale anymore. Anything that wasn't practical for everyday living or that you just didn't like as much?

  19. The turning leaves; cool, breezy days; foggy mornings ready for a nice chai; crunchy leaves beneath my feet... I love this season. It marks the end of a favorite season, but reminds me of God's steady hand amidst our changing seasons.

  20. My favorite part of fall? The wretchedly hot summers are OVER!!! Yippee!!!!

    ReplyDelete
  21. My favorite time of year is autumn too, but unfortunately I live in Florida and it is still in the 90's. I still have lots of fall activities and recipes planned though.

    ReplyDelete
  22. Oooo, this sounds fun! What I love most about Fall is that the weather will finally start to cool off. I live in Tucson,AZ and our hot weather starts around mid May and sometimes lasts through mid to late November.

  23. Awesome! I love fall.

  24. I love fall too. The smells and the crisp air and the coziness of being all warm inside our houses with our families. It makes me happy :)

  25. Whoa! I totally forgot about the 31 Days. I did last year on reflections and it was really hard to write. I better start thinking about what I want to write about this year! Anyway, autumn is my absolute favorite part of the year! Looking forward to seeing what you come up with!

  26. I'm excited! I love the fall too! It's my favorite time of the year and I am so looking forward to my first fall in the mountains. My project this fall is making curtains for my new place to help insulate come winter time. I'll be looking forward to your posts as well! Yeah!

  27. Hi, I just had to comment after reading all of your previous 31 days posts and just loving them! You have given me such inspiration. I can't wait to read more. Thanks!!

  28. Hey Kelly! I love fall too. We live on Oahu though so it's hard to get in the spirit sometimes. I would love to hear your thoughts on how to enjoy fall when the temperature doesn't change. Better yet - I'd love to do a guest post on the subject for you! Contact me if you're interested at waltzingwithpotatoes@yahoo.com

Thanks for being such an inspiration! You inspired me to start blogging and now you've inspired me to join the 31 dayers too. :) I'll be blogging about 31 days of Drawing Closer to God if you're interested in checking it out. God Bless!

  29. I'll be reading your blog, but might abandon mine for the next while because FALL IS MY ABSOLUTE FAVORITE and I'm totally going to focus on getting outdoors with my kids every day and going on a hike, and that might take all my blogging energy, we'll see! http://thewridefamily.blogspot.com/2012/09/fall-in-utah.html

  30. I love the cooler weather. Living in Florida, it's hot most of the time, so Nov. - March are like fall for us. Fall is my favorite season too! I love the colors, the apples, flavored teas, and the slow build to Christmas. :-)

  31. I love the colors, I love cooking with apples, pumpkins, I love everything in fact!

  32. I love everything about fall, too. At our home, I unofficially decided that fall started yesterday. I know that technically this isn't true, but I had a blast putting up burnt orange and brown fabric pennant banners and dying wool for my fall knitted sweater. Next order of fall business is a camping trip this weekend in leafy no-where.

  33. Are you Canadian? Or British? I'm Canadian and I spell it "savour" too! I stumbled across your Year of Less blog, sent it to a friend, and she told me about this one! I just love the coziness of fall, so I'm looking forward to your 31 day series! Mine is called 31 days to real-life relationships. I'm a bit nervous about consistently having quality posts for that many days in a row.

    1. I'm Canadian. I debated writing it the American way but I just couldn't get past the fact that it looked wrong to me. :)

    2. I'm neither, and I've always spelled with those U's as well, such as colour and honour. I just think it looks so much classier.

Jo, I'm going to go check out your blog now! 31 days of relationships sounds like it will be interesting.

  34. Reading all these comments has me sitting here on a gorgeous southern hemisphere spring day longing for a northern hemisphere autumn! I love how you celebrate the season...and as a spontaneous trip across the pacific is out of the question, I'll celebrate spring here :)

  35. I absolutely love fall! Even though I always seem to start off with bronchitus (like I have now). But I just love everything about it and it looks like this year we are finally going to have a pretty fall again. I can't wait to take some mountain trips and show my kiddos just how beautiful everything is this time of year.

  36. I love fall too! I have s question though. You mentioned in amothet post that were decorating consumables. Do you find that those items are less expensive than processed items..gees Im mot even sure wording question correctly. I love the though of being more self sufficient but when I tried it has been a disaster. For example, the tomatoe plant. It doing well and startling ing to.grow and then ugh! The worms, spider mites and then it got too.hot! I gave up. Any Advice????

  38. This is going to be even better than your last 31 days! If there's anything I like better than organization... it's Autumn! I only wish I had my new house by now so I could really follow your blog posts... but I'll just have to incorporate what I can anyway. :D

  39. *LOVE* the fall season and The Day of the Dead is our absolute favorite holiday around here. We start our celebration of the season this weekend, and I did a quick makeover of the front entryway to get ready. I'm so looking forward to your 31 days blog!
    Cheers!

  40. How exciting! I absolutely love fall and Halloween. Last year I blogged 31 days of Halloween recipes. It was quite the challenge, not sure I'm up to ever doing that again :) I'm so looking forward to this series.

  41. Living in Houston fall is something a body longs for. The first crisp (below 80% heat and humidity) puts a spring in our step. The sound of a marching band practicing the desire for foods filled with cinnamon, nutmeg, allspice and more.

  42. So excited to find this blog! Thanks for posting. I'm excited to find out more ways to savor the season in greener ways to enrich our family! I love creating new family memories.
