We're having a party!
A Fall Harvest Potluck. Friends are coming with their favourite local and seasonal foods, and I can hardly wait. What is better than good food with great friends?
I decided to make use of the beautiful seasonal items available at the local farmers market to create some decorations to scatter on the tables and buffet.
We made some vases out of squash by cutting the top off of a couple small butternut squashes and drilling a hole down the center of them with a one-inch drill bit. Then I just filled them with water and flowers like an ordinary vase!
I also made some little flower filled pumpkins by cutting a square out of a mini pumpkin and filling it with wet floral foam and then tucking some colourful fall mums into the foam.
I can't wait to scatter the tables with my thrifty little fall centrepieces!

I love the idea of adding the floral foam to the mini pumpkins. So totally smart!
ReplyDeleteI love these decorations and the idea of having a fall potluck. We might need to do this as well!
ReplyDeleteI love this too!!! Wonderful idea and just what our 'can not tell it is fall' decor needs around here. Can one still use the squash afterwards?? My frugal OCD is worried about waste;-) I love nothing better than pumpkin and/or butternut squash soup.
ReplyDeleteEnjoy your potluck!!

The squash vases are FABULOUS! What a creative idea - and it looks stunning.
ReplyDeleteI love these! SO much better than fake plastic pumpkin decor :)
ReplyDeleteI've seen this done with pumpkins but never thought of making a vase out of the squash! I love it and your blog!
ReplyDeleteI just found your blog through the traffic stats of my blog. I LOVE it!! I am always struggling to do everyday homemaker stuff, as I stink at it!! Honestly, been married 20 years, have four kids (my last pregnancy ALSO gave me identical twins...boys) and I struggle every day. This site gives me inspiration. Thank you!!!
ReplyDeleteI love those, especially the baby pumpkins! I saw a pin where someone hollowed out a large pumpkin, put a glass bowl in it and used it to serve punch. So pretty and I can't wait to see more from your fall potluck-- what fun!
