I know I've said this before, but we are a board game sort of family. We love board games! But I hate storing board games. Different size boxes, lids that don't stay on, a bazillion little pieces... in a small home it's a recipe for frustration. But then I had an epiphany...
Inexpensive headbands. They are just the right size elastic to wrap around the average board game box so that you can stand them up in a closet without fear of lids coming loose.
Tidy, organized board games on a shelf! Easy peasy!

I wish I had thought of this! I use them to keep my trash bags in place in the waste cans but never thought to use them this way! THANKS!
ReplyDeleteOh my goodness, you are brilliant!
ReplyDeleteI use them to keep bed linens together in the linen closet so when my hubby wants to change the linens (yes, he does this voluntarily!) he can easily grab a set of fitted, flat and pillow cases.
ReplyDeleteGreat idea! :)
ReplyDeleteThat's crazy smart!!
ReplyDeleteThis is genius. Thank you so much!
ReplyDeleteGenius! And you have amazing taste for board games! Ticket to Ride is my favorite!!!
ReplyDeleteGREAT idea! I'm going to copy it...

This is brilliant!!! Also, great games. I love Carcassonne.
ReplyDeleteFantastic idea!!! I never thought of that! Thank you for sharing it!
ReplyDeleteWarmly,
Katy
Very creative!!! I am embarrassed to say that I had them on a shelf, but I had them stacked instead of how you have them. The stacking did NOT work for me, so I put them elsewhere. I may need to take them out!
ReplyDeleteBrilliant! We love board games (and have many of the same ones you do) and I hate that I take my life into my own hands when I try to get one out of the closet. Thanks for the tip!

Yey for Settlers!
ReplyDeleteHooray! I love this idea. I was just starting to look around for board games for my kiddos. By the way, any recommendations for board games for very young children? My oldest is 4 and Candyland can only keep us entertained for so long.
ReplyDeleteThanks,
Claire
Genius! Love it! Thank you!... And agreed.... great taste in games!
ReplyDeleteWell thanks for just being so awesomely smart! I have been thinking of what to do with my games, and I love this!
ReplyDeleteOh genius idea!! thank you!!
ReplyDeleteLove this idea, but I have a question...Where do I buy these headbands at? Target? I am a very pregnant mother who no longer has many brain cells functioning and could use some guidance. :)
ReplyDeleteTry the Dollar store!
DeleteI echo everyone else! Thanks so much for this simple, brilliant idea!
ReplyDeleteI love this idea. We love board games too and that is such a simple and easy way to store games.
ReplyDeleteExcellent idea. We also have a designated drawer called the "lost piece drawer" in our house. That way if I'm tidying up and find a puzzle piece or game piece, I can just toss it in that drawer instead of tracking down the correct game/puzzle (not always obvious). This kids do this too. Then when we're using a game/puzzle and are missing something, we know where to look. This was better than putting the pieces in my pocket to get to it later and finding them in the laundry at the end of the week. Puzzle pieces don't wash well.
ReplyDeleteAlso - What is the Sleeping Grump? I'm intrigued. Could it be a game about my husband?
LOL! Sleeping Grump is a cooperative game for young children. It's great.
DeleteWe also have a huge game collection....with many of the same games. :) We store them on the side like you do as well. The hairband idea is brilliant.
ReplyDeleteBrilliant!! My husband loves collecting games, so they're slowly taking over our home. HA HA HA! This is a fantastic way. When you stack them, the boxes get destroyed. Love this!
ReplyDeleteLove this idea. Also, love the name of your blog. So perfect for us imperfect souls.
ReplyDeleteThis is absolutely brilliant!! And I am going to do this asap!!! Currently all board games are stored in my son's bedroom closet which is NOT working for any of us but to rehome them as they are requires more space than our other closets have. This will solve all kinds of issues!! Thanks for sharing!!
ReplyDeleteThis is FANTASTIC! Since I don't have headbands lying around but I have a big spool of 1/4" elastic, I'm going to just make some up with the elastic and myself and kiddos will be pleased with the new organization! LOVE your blog. Thanks!!!
ReplyDeleteThis is a great tip! I love board games and have quite a few, so this could really be quite helpful for me.
ReplyDeleteThis is so clever! Thanks for the tip - my daughter has tons of games, and this'll keep the parts from sliding out when they inevitably all fall off the shelf. :)
ReplyDeleteI will be doing this today. Thanks!
