Valentine’s Blessing Jars Filled with Love and Warmth
The kids and I have been talking a lot lately about the difference between put-ups and put-downs, about using words of blessing and encouragement instead of criticism and judgment. So I thought we’d practice thinking up encouraging and lovely things to say to one another by making what I’m calling “blessing jars“.
We rounded up some scrapbook papers, mason jars, and a chalkboard I had in the basement and labeled the jars for each member of the family. We lined them up on a shelf and wrote “Things that we love about you…” on the chalkboard.

Then we cut a bazillion little paper hearts and we’ve been writing small notes of blessing and encouragement on them and putting them in the jars.
I’ve been helping the younger ones write out their sentiments, but my oldest is doing it all by herself.
We will continue to add heart-shaped notes of encouragement to the jars for the next week. On Valentine’s Day, we will each receive our jars and read the contents. The kids can hardly wait! (I’m pretty excited about it too…)
