{OrganizedHome} Day 19: DIY File Basket

Not willing to sacrifice space in my small home for a filing cabinet, I created a pretty little file basket.

I stained some dowels with some stain I had in the basement and used craft wire to attach them to the basket.

I use hanging files for main sections: bills, bank statements, tax info, insurance policies, personal, kids records, blog and miscellaneous.  I created subsections inside the hanging folders using regular file folders (the non hanging type). 

Tip:  Create a sub section for every type of bill and statement you receive. Each time you file your records, put them to the back of the appropriate subsection. At the end of the year, pull out each of your bills and statements separated by type AND in order, ready to pop a paper clip on them and store away if necessary.

I added a simple card stock label.  The basket sits on my bookshelf, easily accessible and big enough for a years worth of files.
